On August 1, 2024, the US Senate Appropriations Committee, by a bipartisan vote of 25-3, approved an $80 billion FY 2025 funding plan for the U.S. Department of Education. The funding boost is nearly $1 billion more than the current budget provides. Included in the budget proposal are increases to Title I ($280 million), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ($295 million) and a $100 bump in the maximum Pell Grant award to $7,495. However, it is less than the $82 billion requested by the Biden Administration, but is much more than the $72 billion House Appropriations Committee bill, which would cut Title I by 25%.
