According to research by EAB, an education consulting firm, to reduce chronic absenteeism school districts should use targeted and tailored approaches that focus on three populations — parents, teachers and secondary school students. Approaches should be based on empathy and clear communication about attendance expectations and the value of in-person learning.
EAB is a consulting firm specializing in education institutions and serves roughly 2,500 schools, colleges, and universities.
In addition, a newly released analysis by Attendance Works found that during the 2021-22 school year, 6.5 million more students missed at least 10% or more of school days than in 2017-18.
